
The Department of Mental Health and Behavioural Sciences at Fortis Healthcare is an integrated mental health care system providing clinical evaluation and treatment services for a broad range of emotional, cognitive, and behavioral disorders for patients of all ages and cultural backgrounds. Led by Dr. Samir Parikh and one of the largest mental health care providers in the private sector, our team comprises of psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, counselling psychologists, psychoanalytical psychotherapists, art therapists, special educators and occupational therapists. We provide mental health care on an inpatient admission and outpatient basis and include individual, family, and couples approaches. At the Department of Mental Health and Behavioural Sciences, it is our endeavour to create an environment that promotes hope and trust among our clients, their families, and the community. We aspire at improving the emotional and psychological well-being of our clients by providing effective, integrated mental health services with compassion, dignity and respect.

Clinical Services
Psychiatry
Our team of psychiatrists caters to the medical management of mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorders and the schizophrenia spectrum, for both adults and children. De-addiction and rehabilitation for substance use disorders are also carried out on an out-patient basis. We also conduct CMEs and training programs for physicians and healthcare staff on the basics of psychiatry in order to bring mental health care to primary healthcare.

Psychological Services
Clinical Psychology
Our Clinical Psychology team comprises of psychologists licensed by the Rehabilitation Council of India. Utilizing cognitive behavioural and interpersonal approaches, our clinical psychologists specialize in the psychotherapeutic treatment of emotional and behavioural disorders. We also provide psychodiagnostic evaluations which include an assessment of developmental, intellectual and academic functioning, neuropsychological functioning and personality dynamics.

Counselling Psychology
The aim of counselling psychology is to facilitate individuals and families cope with life situations that may otherwise be overwhelming or debilitating. The scope of counselling includes stress related, career related and relationship related counselling. We give special emphasis to health counselling and provide psychological support to all patients admitted in our hospitals, along with their families, in a bid to amalgamate psychological care within primary healthcare.

Psycho-Oncology
Psycho-oncology is specialized field that deals with the psychological and social aspects of cancer. Within this specialty, psycho-oncologists support patients of cancer patients through the various stages of the diseases in order to enhance their quality of life and ensure compliance. Special emphasis is also laid on the well-being of families and caregivers. Support groups for patients and families are also conducted on a regular basis.
Psychoanalytical Psychotherapy
Ours is one of the only private hospital networks across the country that houses a comprehensive Psychoanalytical Unit within the mental health department. Psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapists take Freudian and post Freudian approaches to therapy to work through early life traumas and change long standing maladaptive personality and relational patterns. We also organize an annual International Psychoanalytical Conference to give an impetus to psychoanalytical studies in India.

Art Based Therapy
creative arts based therapies include visual arts, music, storytelling, creative writing, and movement in a therapeutic setting. It is a non-threatening form of therapy that utilizes the creative process to address behavioural problems like ADHD and aggression, psychiatric disorders such as depression, and aid in working through physical, emotional and sexual trauma. Our Art Therapists conduct group therapy for homogenous groups of children such as those suffering from cerebral palsy, ADHD and autism spectrum disorders. We also provide art based therapy to all children admitted in the hospital in order to ease the psychological distress that comes with medical illness and hospitalization.

Remediation
Our remediation wing, comprising a team of special educators and occupational therapists, aims to working with the academic, motor and behavioural difficulties of children suffering from neurodevelopmental disorders. Special education, through the use of specific and multisensory techniques and individualized education plans, assist children with learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities and attention deficits cope with their academic demands. Occupational therapy aims at restoring cognitive and motor functioning in children with developmental disorders, while also modifying tasks and teaching skills to carry out activities of daily living.

Special Programmes
School Mental Health Programme
- The steady increase in the identification of psychological difficulties faced by school children shows us the need to ensure their psychosocial well-being through an active collaboration between schools and mental health practitioners. Therefore, we must make sure that we identify, evaluate and intervene when problems related to developmental delays, academic difficulties, peer pressure self-esteem and emotional functioning arise.
- Here, we conduct interactive talks and workshops for students, teachers and parents, designed to address concerns around child and adolescent mental health. These workshops are geared towards enabling positive parenting, effective teaching and providing stronger coping skills to children and adolescents. Some of our previous workshops have been on topics such as effective classroom management, identification and intervention of children with psychological disorders and life-skills training with students. As a part of this initiative, we run two specialized programmes:
- The Fortis Prosocial Peer Moderator Programme – the Fortis Prosocial Peer Moderator Programme is a peer training programme designed to impart life skills education to students. The programme utilizes intensive and interactive workshops – training students from schools in an experiential learning format. These students then become positive role models for their peers so as to help other children learn healthier forms of behavior. The Prosocial Peer Moderator Programme encompasses the following five modules:

- The Fortis School Counsellor Forum – The Fortis School Counsellor Forum provides a platform for practicing school counsellors to come together and voice their opinions, learn from the experiences of others and remain apprised of the latest advancements in the field.

Organizational Psychology Initiative
The Fortis Organizational Psychology Initiatives helps optimize the performance of organizations through scientifically validated knowledge of human psychology and organizational behavior.
The organizational Psychology programme is designed to address staffing needs, interpersonal dynamics, employee engagement, life-skills enhancement, eadership development, and organizational culture and workplace climate concerns. The services provided include seminars and workshops, employee selection and promotion, audits and counselling implants as well as a mentoring programme for those in key management positions. These programmes are based on the latest in psychologically informed research, along with a personalized understanding of the unique needs of the organization to provide tailor-made services that ensure maximum efficiency. These services are designed not only with a problem solving focus, but encompass a holistic vision of an organization that embodies growth, efficacy as well as work satisfaction.
Sport Psychology
A programme which makes use of empirically validated psychological techniques in order to help athletes zone in, enhance their skills, cope with competition and pressure, handle setbacks, enhance motivation and morale, and work effectively in teams.
Community Outreach Programme
A program geared towards creating awareness regarding mental health concerns, promoting remedial interventions and engaging in knowledge and capacity building interventions for volunteers working in the community sector.
The Fortis Fellowship in Cultural Psychology is for students holding graduate degrees in psychology who wish to acquire specialty training in cultural psychology. The programme is designed to complement their background in clinical psychology and to provide more in-depth training in the aspects of culture and its influences in clinical practices, particularly in the context of the Indian Culture.
