I took her in my arms, my little bundle of joy, I can never forget those tiny little hands holding my finger… I loved when she did that. My wife and I were blessed with a daughter in 2003. She was underweight when she was born. Three years passed and instead of gaining, she kept losing more and more weight. We were worried. I decided I had to do something as this was not normal considering she was eating well. We took her to a nearby hospital. The doctor told us that she was suffering from atrial septal defect and was born with a "hole" in the wall that separates the top two chambers of the heart. There is nothing more painful than to see your own child suffering. The doctor also told us the only way to save her was to get a surgery done. I was heartbroken as I dint have enough money. Feeling hopeless and disheartened all we could do is pray for her life. And then one day a friend in my village told me about the Being Human foundation and their tie up with Fortis hospitals. It was as if the Gods had answered our prayers. Me, my brother along with my daughter took the next train and reached Gurgaon. CTVS team after examining my daughter told us that the hole could be closed with just a procedure and no surgery was required. I was relieved as I knew that she was in the hands of the most experienced doctors in the county. On 18th May they took her in for the procedure. After just 2 days in the ICU, she was discharged. She is recovering well and soon will lead life like any other kid of her age.
