There are two kinds of people in this world. Those who are okay in the environment they live in, they see problems around them but tend to ignore and adjust themselves accordingly and then there are others who have the will to fight the system and bring about a change to make the world a better place to live for themselves and for others.
We are happy and proud of to welcome the second kind as a part the Fortis family, Director, Clinical Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant, Dr Rahul Bhargava.
At a traffic signal close to his house, there would always be a jam and a long waiting time to cross the junction. The problem was that the traffic was heavy only on one side in the mornings and on the opposite side in the evenings whereas the red light time was equal for all four roads. Dr. Bhargava did a pilot study and figured out the heavy traffic roads to have longer green lights than the others for there to be smooth flow. He approached the DC with his analysis and this was approved and implemented. The success was evident and similar changes were done for others crossroads as well.
Dr Rahul in his college days started ‘Say No To Whole Blood’ campaign to educate people about optimum utilisation of whole blood by breaking it down and using different components. He still continues to invest his time in promoting this cause and spreading awareness especially in rural areas.
Another initiative that he rolled out while in his previous organisation was the ‘updation of nurses’. He felt that nurses have the maximum work load and they are not treated oas well as the doctors. To boost their self-esteem, a programme was implemented to motivate the nursing team and train them to be leaders, by empowering them to take decisions. He plans to do the same at FMRI as well.
